Cardiff Castle

The next morning we all went to Cardiff Castle. This castle was built by John Bute. It was used as a hose and while it was built in the 18th century, its décor was meant to represent a much earlier medieval time period. In fact, many of the rooms were decorated in Middle Eastern styles. The first room that we went in was the men’s smoke room. This is the room that they would go to after dinner each night to smoke. The women were not allowed in the room. Outside of the room they had a mask of the devil above the door, which was supposed to scare the women away. The next room was the day time nursery. This is where the children would go during the day to learn and play. One thing that I thought was very cool about this room was the paintings on the wall. All across the room were painted characters, and each character represented a different nursery rhyme. There was sleeping beauty, beauty and the beast, the little read ridding hood, and also robin hood to name a few. We also saw the bedrooms, master bathroom, the Arab room (which was a room where the women went after dinner) and also the loft upstairs on the roof. The gold on the wall in the Arab room was made with 22 karat gold. The house was sold to the state in 1947 and ever since then has been open to the public.
